Our Name

In 2002 UCLA won the NCAA Division I soccer championship. The defensive line of Leonard Griffin, Tony Lawson and Scot Thompson were all African American and coined the term the Dark Side for their defensive unit during the championship run. Each went on to play professional soccer and eventually moved into youth development where they were now in a position to address the issue of teams only having one or two black players (and at times none at all). Leonard, Tony and Scot all decided to get into coaching to be a positive face to the game and ensure that black communities can use soccer as a vehicle for success both on and off the field.
